及物性理论下《江城子•乙卯正月二十日夜记梦》英译本对比分析

| 摘 要： | 及物性是韩礼德提出的概念功能中的一个语义系统，它把人们对现实世界和内心世界的经验用六个过程表达出来，即物质过程，心理过程，关系过程，行为过程，言语过程和存在过程，能为语篇分析提供新的视角。本文以及物性理论为理论框架对比分析《江城子•乙卯正月二十日夜记梦》的两个英译本——许渊冲和Burton Waston的译本，以期通过比对译者选用的过程类型异同，继而探讨两个译本在每个小句传达原词感情时所用的翻译策略，进一步帮助读者理解古诗词的主体思想和语言特点。对比发现，许译本更为灵活，既遵照原文的及物性过程，传达了原文的信息，又深刻刻画了词人对亡妻的思念之情，而Burton作为外国译者，更倾向直译原文，并且从第一人称视角出发，为读者营造了真实感。尽管所采取的翻译方式略有不同，但许渊冲和Burton Waston的译本无疑都很优秀，同时笔者也认为及物性理论在诗歌翻译具有可操作性和实用性。 |

A Comparison of Two Translations of Riverside Town•A Dream of the Night of the 20th Day of the 1st Moon 1075 Under Transitivity Theory

| Abstract: | Transitivity theory is a semantic system under the conceptual function put forward by Halliday, which expresses people’s experience and inner feelings through six processes, namely material process, mental process, relational process, behavioral process, verbal process and existential process. Thus, transitivity theory can provide a new perspective for discourse analysis. Based on the transitivity theory, this paper compares and analyzes two English versions of Riverside Town•A Dream of the Night of the 20th Day of the 1st Moon 1075 English — Xu Yuanchong’s and Burton Waston’s. By comparing the differences and similarities of the process types in each clause chosen by translators, the paper hopes to further help readers understand the main idea and language characteristics of the ancient poetry, and confirms the guiding function of transitivity theory in poetry translation practice. The comparison shows that Xu’s version is more flexible, which not only follows the transitivity process of the original text, but also deeply depicts the poet’s grief for his dead wife. As a foreign translator, Burton tends to take literal translation. But there is no doubt that both translations are excellent. At the same time, the author also believes that transitivity theory is operable in poetry translation. |
