| Abstract: | This paper aims to explore effective approaches and underlying objectives for cultivating large-country surveying craftsmen, with a particular focus on the practical demands of engineering surveying in the complex geographic environments of Southwest China. The study is grounded in the theoretical teaching and practical training system of the Engineering Surveying course for surveying engineering majors in Southwest China. By systematically integrating the typical mountainous terrain, climatic conditions, and construction characteristics of the region, the research constructs a course knowledge framework and expansion pathways tailored to the needs of major infrastructure development in western China. The research methods include curriculum content optimization, typical case-driven teaching, control network accuracy simulation analysis, and on-site setting-out error comparison. Specifically, the study employs comprehensive teaching experiments that combine theoretical derivation with field verification, using examples such as the joint optimization design of tunnel inside-and-outside horizontal and vertical control networks, the layout strategies of construction control networks for extra-long-span bridges, and high-precision setting-out techniques for key characteristic points of large-scale projects. The research conclusions indicate that: through systematic training in key aspects such as survey datum design, error allocation and robust estimation, and virtual simulation of engineering setting-out, students' practical abilities to tackle challenging engineering problems—including complex terrain, long-distance tunnel breakthrough, and high-precision construction layout—can be significantly enhanced. Meanwhile, the expansion of this course framework helps cultivate students' systematic thinking, engineering risk prediction awareness, and independent innovation capabilities, thereby providing major western development projects (railways, highways, water conservancy, etc.) with high-quality surveying professionals who possess solid theoretical foundations and on-site adaptability. The findings of this paper offer reference value and practical guiding significance for the teaching reform of surveying engineering majors and the cultivation of large-country craftsmanship spirit under the context of emerging engineering education. |
